Chipster Update

Things that have been happening in Chipster world lately.

Reading: Being on Goodreads turns reading into a sort of competitive social activity. However, I may be the only one amongst my friends actually playing... I'm ashamed to say so, but I think I always read books with other people in mind - my friends, random people on public transport etc.

I have lovely friends who buy me things.

These raccoon earrings from my friend Kaari. She was worried that they might not be my style! Laughable, because they are perfect.
P8130067
Dr Who necklace from my cousin Miranda! With little Weeping Angels, the scariest of the Dr Who villains. I love wearing my geekiness around my neck.

And of course, the camera with which these pictures were taken, from the lovely Brigitta who has just left me for Satan's suburbia, i.e. Canberra =(

I bought a liquid chalk pen from Smiggle! It makes every surface a chalkboard surface, it's so much fun.
hi moustache
I cleaned my room, and now there are a bunch of cute little vignettes around my room.
P8130064
Chalk-decorated jars. I have a lot of jars and not much to put in them. I stuck a polar bear on one of them, I like bears.

CHIPSTAGRAM: BIRTHDAY EDITION

IMG_2676 IMG_2677
Hooray for birthdays! I'm twenty-two, and if I was the kind of person who made "things to do by twenty-two" lists, then I would be very depressed right now. Luckily I'm not, so I'm not! || I spent the night before having cocktails at The Baxter Inn, like a classy motherfucker. It's a funky little place, perfect for a chipster night out- a prohibition-era speakeasy style whiskey bar, and bartenders with moustaches -  MOUSTACHES (I'm not sure why their website is so ugly, it's probably ironic, too ironic for me to comprehend).

More gifts from Rob, the most excellent boyfriend, a gentleman and a scholar.
These Coralie Bickford-Smith hardcovers are the loveliest and immediately after he gave me this set I started re-reading P&P, which I have read at least six times already (I read it aloud to Rob and he promptly fell asleep - hilarious). I know the old adage is never judge a book by its cover, but dammit I can't help it. The only reason I've never read The Road, for instance, is that I haven't been able to find a copy that has the cover artwork I want, they all have the movie tie-in cover. Don't get me started on movie tie-in book covers, why do publishers do this and why does Keira Knightley seem to appear in all the film adaptations of novels I want to read? I'm sick of seeing her face on book covers.

Brig's brought me back this souvenir from New York (*hair flick*), I like to imagine that Leslie Knope personally oversaw the production of this water bottle and proudly carries one of her own with her wherever she goes. Leslie Knope is my spirit animal. || The beaded collar is from Rob's mum, who reads this blog (HI SALLY) and gave me a perfectly chipster gift. YES, my blog is finally getting me awesome free stuff.

Robbie setting up our birthday picnic. || My name on a bus on my birthday! Serendipitous.

IMG_2650 IMG_2648 IMG_2646 IMG_2651
Food porn! Dinner with Rob at Our Place. That honeycomb cheesecake with vanilla ice cream and lemon curd was so delicious. I am drooling right now thinking about it.

IMG_2581 IMG_2580 IMG_2579 IMG_2578
And dinner with my mum & brother at Twelve Spices. My mother, who is not normally supportive of my alcohol consumption, bought me a lychee mojito - there is something about lychee that makes it divinely cocktail-worthy. Anyway, she only bought it for me because I learnt to ask for booze in Chinese and she was consequently very proud of me (it wasn't even covered in my classes, I specifically looked up how to say it, so now I can say "my hobby is drinking alcohol" in Mandarin, which I am sure will be a very useful phrase to me, one day).

Happy birthmonth to me, xo Jess.

CHIPSTAGRAM: 28.04.12

UntitledI know right, could I get any more witty with the "chipster" puns? I think not.

IMG_2554 IMG_2552

I'm trying to up the reading. Thanks to my literature class, I have developed an overwhelming feeling of inadequacy and now I must read ALL the books. A magazine here and there won't hurt, especially if it's frankie. Never Let Me Go is fantastic so far, but I've had to put it down so I can actually finish my course readings.&&&& I found this Persuasion Penguin Classics mug at Typo for only $5!! Persuasion is my most favouritist Austen, so this was very exciting for me. Seen here poised upon my favourite Penguin Classics.

*sigh* Unfortunately, this has been my life for the past week. Typing up essays and re-reading Ivan Illyich about 10 times. Left is my current desktop which I think accurately reflects my current moodiness.

Left: Cocktail from a couple of weeks ago, when Rob and I had dinner at Spice I Am in Balmain. It was pretty and foamy and delicious. Right: Heart-shaped eggs for breakfast today! With tomatoes and mushrooms (I have a heart-shaped egg poacher).

Left: Yaay! It's almost coat season again. Err-body lookin' good in coats, yo.
Right: My outfit inspiration for the past year or so, clipped up on my mirror. I dream about this lady sometimes - I want to be her.

CHIPSTER DETAILS 19.03.12

Well, that week went by fast. Now that uni is in full swing I hopefully will have plenty of time to blog during my procrastination sessions. This week I started my third job, ate too many burgers (probably) and dressed up as Professor Trelawney for a Harry Potter costume party. I don't have any pictures, because I was intimidated by all the people with SLR's, so maybe I will get back in costume and take a couple to blog.

I bought new shoes today on sale for $25! There is a certain euphoria that can only be felt when shopping bargains and I am high on it right now.

The burgers at the Town Hall Hotel Balmain are the best. I think I have posted a picture of them before on this blog, though. But here's another, with onion rings!

photo 4photo 2

I really like the cover of this budgeting book, the illustrations are so precious! Drawing all your purchases would be such a fun way to budget, although I think I would get bored of drawing chewing gum and Starbuck's frappucino's.

I committed myself to drawing pictures for a couple of my friends, but I hate everything I draw. This draft is for Jess, who requested a French mouse.

I laughed internally (for fear of looking like a lunatic) and took a secret picture when I saw this tissue box cover for sale that bears (punny!) a resemblance to Pedobear. Get it, get it, tissues? Well, I thought it was funny anyway.

CHIPSTER DETAILS 12.03.12

I think I may be overextending myself. If I get a job that I'm interviewing for tomorrow, I will have three part-time jobs, as well as full-time uni. Oh, and I just started volunteering for the Women's Plans Foundation, a great Australian charity that raises funds to support women's family planning in developing countries. I'm working on their social media outlets, so 'like' the page, please! I don't know how to segue from that into the blog post content.

My rich friend Steph and I! Her house is made of solid gold and her skirt is from Marc Jacobs.

brigandjess

So this might as well be Brigitta's style blog, since I keep posting pictures of her. I think we are getting slightly better at posing, although I have a pained look on my face which was the result of trying to look serious while posing against a wall in the middle of the night.

photo 2(1) photo 1(1)

I bought some awesome Kikkerland skull-shaped shot glasses! I want to make Alien Brain Hemorrhage's in them, but they also make cool tealight candle holders. They join my skull printed mouse pad, so there is a slight death motif in my room now.

CHIPSTER DETAILS 13.02.12

Happy Valentine's Day! I will be spending the day working on an assignment for Summer School and most likely eating copious amounts of chocolate. There are profiteroles in my fridge and profiteroles are kind of amazing.

photo 1 photo 4

I go through phases of feeling artistic, I drew this fox with the aim of turning it into a Valentine's Day card with the caption "You're Foxy". Dangerfield had a sale the other day so I bought these cross stockings. A man on the train asked me if I was a Christian, because of the stockings and I replied "do you really think that I would wear my religious symbol on my hosiery?" He was drunk, though, so that just confused him.

photo 5 photo

My cousin and I went to the MCA to catch the end of the Rafael Lozano-Hemmer exhibition, which was actually the funniest art ever. 33 Questions per Minute is an art piece that generates random questions, and some of the results were hilarious and also weirdly thought-provoking (despite the slightly confusing syntax).

photo 2 photo 3

Visited a new waffle house in Balmain called Wafflicious. I'd never had waffles before, so I ordered the most delicious-sounding item on the menu (the chocolate monstrosity on the right) and it was so sickly sweet and goooood.

Oh, and the pretty, pretty Jane from the blog Deluminators has 'tagged' me or something, I don't quite understand, but the result is that I get to post 7 facts about myself. Because really, I don't nearly talk about myself enough on this blog.

1. I'm currently in my fifth year of a Commerce/Arts degree, with majors in Marketing, International Business and Sociology. Good news, these are three areas which have some of the highest graduate unemployment rates!

2. I am a feminist and I think that all intelligent women should consider themselves feminists unless they have an amazingly thought-provoking reason for not doing so (like, they don't want to align themselves with a movement that has been predominantly represented by white, middle-class women, for instance).

3. I'm Australian, but I get really caught up in American news. So much so that I forget who the premier of NSW is, but I can name all the US Republican party candidates. I am puzzled when people here don't know who Casey Anthony is.

4. I love Jane Austen and period romances (but NOT Wuthering Heights). My favourites are Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice - if Captain Wenthworth and Elizabeth Bennett could get together I think I would die of happiness.

5. When I was in high school, I decided I wanted to write the next YA book sensation in the vein of the Babysitter's Club or Sweet Valley High series'. I wrote about 20 first chapters and none of them got further than 10 pages.

6. I want to be skinny for fashion, but I love food way too much. Sometimes I plan my day around what I am going to eat. Tonight I'm going to have a veggie pie from Pie Face (the most delicious pie in the world!) and tomorrow morning I'm thinking eggs and baked beans on toast.

7. I am supposed to be doing two essays right now, but I am procrastinating.

I don't know what Jane was talking about, that was easy.
