I am searching for a pair of cute wellies for Sydney's wet weather season. I love those Loeffler Randalls', but I feel like rain boots should be for getting muddy and scuffed and therefore should not cost $150 (don't even get me started on those Burberry boots). I like short boots because they are more versatile and won't make you look ridiculous if the forecast was wrong and it turns out to be a beautiful cloudless day, whereas long boots are more practical and protective against the elements. Wellies evoke scenes of idyllic English seaside towns, taking long walks through the countryside and Elizabeth Bennet-esque muddy skirt hems ("positively medieval"); all things that I feel a sense of nostalgia about but have no reason to because I've never actually experienced any of them. I will very likely end up buying a cheapie pair from Target.

HERE'S SOME CLOTHES

This is Brigs and I doing our best fashion-blogger outfit-post poses. If we look awkward, that's because we are awkward.

Here is where I am supposed to describe what I am wearing and where I got each item from, but I fear that would be pointless with this outfit, since you won't be able to go out and buy anything I am wearing. I am that unique.

I don't know exactly what Brigs is wearing, but I think her mum made that shirt, and at least one thing is probably from Urban Outfitters.

Brigs' necklace is also a clock! And her skirt is also shorts! So versatile.

So that was my outfit post. I don't know how you fashion bloggers do it, because I wore almost the exact same thing the day before and the day after these pictures were taken. Sometimes I wear the same outfit for a whole week. Sometimes I don't wash my hair for a week as well. I am kind of disgusting.

CHIPSTERS ROUND THE WEB

In this regular feature, I look at chipster fashion I admire around the interwebs. Not all of these fine ladies are Chinese, but they do embody the chipster ideal.

DIY BOLO TIE

Fair warning - this is not much of a DIY. It involves absolutely no skill whatsoever, unless you count shopping as a skill (which, come to think of it, I do).

Bolo ties have been touted at the next big thing for the young and the hip for a couple years now, so of course, as a chipster, I must jump straight onto the metaphorical bandwagon. However, living in Australia means that bolo ties aren't readily available in the nearest souvenir store, so I decided to DIY one.

Luckily, I had this cow skull pendant lying around already, which makes the whole thing a bit easier, because it has ready-made holes through which to thread the leather. Other things you could use include any trinkets, corks, buttons, brooches, large beads or keyrings. Pendants are especially good because they usually have a little hole that you can thread your leather/string through.

Through the pendant, I threaded a long piece of brown leather thonging, which I bought for a dollar from one of those random stall cart things in the middle of a shopping mall. Real bolo ties use leather rope, or you could use wool, or braided thread, or anything long and stringy. If there is nothing to thread through, you are going to have to use glue or tape to attach the string.

At the ends, I tied on two grey beads, which I just had lying around the house.

See, nothing to it.

WHERE ART THOU SUMMER?

So, it is the second day of Summer in the Southern Hemisphere. Not that you can tell here in Sydney, where it is currently 20 degrees celsius (worse with the wind chill). I love the cold, but I feel like it's about time I bust out the Summer gear. I decided to make a little Polyvore set of things I want for this season, and it appears that my propensity towards neutrals continues. Throughout Winter, I go days without wearing anything but black, forcing myself into whites and browns to avoid looking like a witch. You can imagine how irksome it is for me that colour blocking is the big new trend right now. Now, what I really want this Summer is a lightweight white tank dress, dip-dyed in black or maybe even blue or yellow, but I have no idea if this is trendy right now. It's kind of ironic that the only way I can afford the clothes I want is if they become extremely popular. But then after that, I can't wear them anymore, because I am a Chipster and I live outside the mainstream, yo.
